Lindfield Golf Club has a range of memberships available to those wishing to become part of our friendly club. With frequent competitions, a picturesque course and excellent facilities it represents an excellent choice and now is a particularly good time to join as there is currently no joining fee.
The Men’s Section of Lindfield Golf Club enjoy a wealth of playing opportunities ranging from formal competitions to fun competitions, as well as matches against other clubs in the county.
Invariably these is an organised competition every weekend of the year at Lindfield complimenting the informal friendly rounds played by individual members and groups of members .
There is a Monthly Medal and Monthly Stableford every month that contribute towards an Order of Merit during the summer season. Many of these competitions are used as qualifiers for regional and national competitions such as the Lombard Trophy.
On other weekends there are less formal rollup stableford competitions that go towards summer and winter leagues and eclectics. During the summer season a number of singles and pairs matchplay knock-out competitions are also organised .
Perhaps the highlights of the year are the Club Championship and the annual Captain’s Day. Both of these events are held at the height of the summer season and attract full fields of members enjoying the best of golfing companionship and enjoyment .
Perhaps one of the most striking things about Lindfield Golf Club is the friendliness, the openness and the welcoming nature of the members. There are no cliques within the membership and new members welcomed with open arms and made to feel as though they belong from day one .
The Ladies Section meet every Tuesday morning for golf, followed by a chat over a cup of coffee (or something stronger) and something to eat.
The Ladies play in the Mail on Sunday, Daily Mail Foursomes, Morrice Fours, Jerdein Memorial Salver and Kathleen Ryder interclub competitions.
League golf is also enjoyed, with the club entering a team in the Division 3 of the county’s Inter-Club Division Championship for golfers with a handicap no lower than 21. These fixtures feature seven ladies from each club playing singles matches .
Monthly medals are played from March to November (first Tuesday of the month), as well as Stableford competitions throughout the year. Tuesday is Ladies Day and on the weeks where there is neither medal nor a Stableford, we choose some other format so the game is always interesting.
We also have various special events throughout the year starting in February when we have a Valentine’s Cup with the Vets, followed by various cups and trophy events, including the Married Couples Cup, Grandparents Cup, Rosebowl, Past Captains Day, Methuselah Trophy and Founders Cup and league competitions. A friendly get-together and an enjoyable lunch follows many of these events.
The Club Championship is played over 36 holes in August over two days. There is also a Ladies Invitation Day in July when members can invite a player from another club .
Perhaps the highlight of the year is the Lady Captain’s Day which takes a different and unique format each year with that year’s Lady Captain putting her particular theme on the day, and which also often acts as a fund raiser for her chosen charity .
The Veterans Section of Lindfield Golf Club aged 55 and over, and more than anything this is a small, friendly, happy group who play golf for the enjoyment and the camaraderie that it brings. The veterans boast quite a range of abilities, all are keen to represent the club in friendly matches and all are given the opportunity to do so.
Friendly matches are played home and away with other local clubs, primarily from Easter to early October and many of which are longstanding fixtures. The matches live up to their name of friendly – there is lots of banter and these encounters are as much a social occasion as they are about enjoying the game of golf. Matches tend to be between eight pairs a side, playing fourball betterball.
Players like to arrive early, have a cup of coffee and meet the opposition before playing their match. Afterwards there is the chance to have relaxing drink followed by two-course meal and coffee.
Slightly more serious, but no less enjoyable, is the chance to represent the club in the big Sussex events, the Cyril Blake Cup and the Gilbert Print Plate.
Within the club, the Veterans’ regular competition day of the week is Friday, with a medal held the first week of the month, a Stableford on the middle Friday of the month and the other dates being filled with a mix of more fun and varied events.
The vets enjoy a host of competitions throughout the year, the most prestigious of which is the vets Club Championship, which is played over 36 holes on a Monday and a Thursday of the same week, generally in late July or early August .
A singles knockout competition runs through the summer months, as does a singles league, where members play round-robin matches with all the group winners progressing to the final phase of the competition to decide the champion.
